What Is The Language Of Tomorrow?
Three decades ago, French was a popular language taught in schools, because it offered clear advantages to anyone aspiring to an international career. During the last two decades Spanish has been the additional language of choice for young school children. This is because the U.S. Hispanic population has become the largest ethnic minority and continues to grow.
Now, the language taught to school children and also learned by corporate executives is Chinese Mandarin. The Chinese see the future and the Chinese government has started to set up offices of the Confucius Institute in the United States. The Confucius Institute offers courses to Americans in Chinese language and culture. According to The Economist, sixty offices of the Confucius Institute have been established during the last few years at university campuses around the U.S.
