Can you believe we start a new decade in a few days! Here are a few areas that are likely to become increasingly relevant starting in 2010.
Crowd Sourcing – A group of people or a community that performs work or accomplishes particular tasks. Generally, an open call goes out to the crowd and the first person who answers the call gets to perform the work or task. Sometimes more than one person can perform a task and often, many people work on projects. Some crowds are volunteers and others are paid for services by the task or project. Modern digital communications technology is used to connect and communicate with the crowd.
Augmented Reality – A display from a computer, mobile phone or heads up device where digital virtual imagery is superimposed over, or merged with, real images. Augmented reality was first depicted fictionally in movies such as Terminator and Blade Runner. Today, augmented reality can be found on television broadcasts of football games where first down lines are displayed virtually over the display of the field. Other more advanced examples are found in mobile apps such as TwittARound, Wikitude, Car Finder and Google Sky Map.
Hybrid Power – A combination of renewable energy, power efficiency technology (computer software and hardware) and new designs for traditional power generation methods designed to produce cleaner and greener power.
