Earth Hour

March 27, 2010

The fourth annual Earth Hour started in Australia and New Zealand a few hours ago with the white roof of the Sydney Opera House going dark. Asia followed with buildings in Hong Kong, Japan and other Asian countries going dark. WWF worker Andy Ridley invented Earth Hour in a Sydney pub with some friends. His vision is to motivate the world to reverse global pollution. When the clock strikes 8:30 pm local time, participants turn off lights for an hour. This event has grown to such a large scale that skylines of many large cities dim and darken in a spectacular fashion.

You don’t have to understand or debate global warming to realize that we need to decrease and reverse the pollution we create and release into our environment. It’s common sense that we do so before we reach a tipping point and forever destroy the balance of our wonderful planet.
