Benjamin Gets A Makeover
The U.S. Treasury Department just unveiled the design for a new $100 bill. The redesigned currency features several new security measures, including: a 3-D security ribbon with Liberty Bells that change to the number 100 when the bill is tilted; a color-changing inkwell and Liberty Bell to the right of Benjamin Franklin’s portrait; the words “The United States of America” microprinted on Franklin’s jacket collar and an embedded thread left of Franklin that glows pink under UV light. The new $100 bill will be released into circulation on February 10, 2011. The 6.5 billion $100 bills currently in circulation (2/3 outside the U.S.) will remain legal tender when the new bills roll out.
