Apps & The Siteless Internet
It’s hard to believe, but the first smartphone hit the market almost 20 years ago. By the end of the 1990’s, Blackberry was launched. Then in 2007 came the iPhone. Just over a year later in July 2008, Apple opened the App Store and on June 7, 2010 there were 225,000+ apps with 5,000,000,000+ downloads. The most popular apps across all devices are mobile games and the most popular seller of mobile games is the App Store.
One need not have a crystal ball to figure out that this trend will strengthen over time – see Japan, Korea and China. The siteless Internet is where apps will rule on mobile devices. The only limiting factor will be capacity of cellular networks to quickly transport huge amounts of data.
