A Few Simple Ways To Create Jobs And Improve The Economy
We can all agree that the U.S. Congress is embarrassing and dysfunctional. Fixing Congress will be difficult, but there are some things that should be done now to turn around our economic situation. Here are two ideas:
1. I wrote on July 5, 2011 about creating the Code Corps to teach people how to write code. There is a huge demand for developers/programmers. There are approximately 7 million developers in the world and it is forecast that demand will increase for another 7-8 million full and part-time coding jobs in the next 3-5 years. Accelerated programs to train people how to code could create 1-2 million new jobs in the next 18 months.
2. Energy is also an area ripe for domestic growth. Acceleration of environmentally responsible domestic natural resource development and alternative energy deployment could create 3-5 million jobs in the next two years. There are over 130 million single family residences in the U.S. Roughly 2% of these residences have solar energy features or other forms of alternative energy. A program to provide tax credits and long-term low interest loans to support accelerated deployment of residential solar PV and solar thermal hot water, could in itself turn around the U.S. economy.
It’s time to take steps to turn things around with solutions, instead of complaining about these problems.
